A quick way to study this topic
  1. Hide the explanation and redraw these three anchors from memory.
  2. Explain the difference between the anchors in your own words.
  3. Apply the distinction to the worked example below. Check the full lesson for assumptions and exceptions.
  4. Recall it again tomorrow, then after a few days. A memory hint is a retrieval cue, not a replacement for understanding.

What this chapter explains

Management concept and decision mechanism

Implementation changes the real service, so plan ownership, dependencies, compatibility, permissions, data sources, training, transition and rollback. A security control can create availability or workflow failures if installed without understanding the business process. Establish acceptance criteria and evaluate required customer and supplier actions. Automation also needs access boundaries and exception handling. Successful deployment does not establish operating effectiveness; verify allowed business behavior, intended denials, monitoring and support. Record temporary broad privileges and remove them when their approved purpose ends.

Build security into change and supplier acceptance

Define security requirements early enough to influence design and procurement. Before a new service goes live, agree evidence for access control, logging, data handling, recovery, and the responsibilities that matter to its scope. Test the relevant requirements with service owners; a successful data transfer alone is not a complete security acceptance decision.

Record supplier duties in the agreement: incident communication, permitted information use, access, material changes, evidence, subcontractor responsibilities, and exit arrangements where relevant. Monitor adherence using suitable service evidence and follow up exceptions. Neither a contract signature nor a favorable assurance label proves continued compliance.

Worked example

A new identity restriction is tested with legitimate users and forbidden actions, then monitored after rollout with a defined recovery route.

Check your understanding

Why should a security deployment test permitted operations as well as blocked ones?

Show explanation

A control must protect the objective without unintentionally preventing the business function it was selected to support.
